Davis, Cushman Kellogg

soldier, lawyer, United States senator, author, was born June 16, 1838, in Henderson, N.

Y. He was first lieutenant in the twentyeighth Wisconsin infantry in 1862-64. He was a member of the Minnesota legislature in 1867; was United States district attorney for Minnesota in 1868-73; was governor of Minnesota in 1874-75; and was elected to the United States senate as a republican, to succeed S. J. R. McMillan, republican, and took his seat March 4, 1887; was re-elected in 1893. His term of service will expire March 3, 1899. He is the author of The Law in Shakespeare.
