Cutting, John Tyler

soldier, business man, congressman, was born Sept. 7, 1844, in Westport, N. Y. He enlisted in Taylor's Chicago battery at the breaking out of the civil war and served until 1862; re-enlisted in 1864 in the Chicago Mercantile battery, in which he served until the expiration of the war.

He removed to California in 1877 and established a wholesale fruit and commission business under the title of The John T. Cutting and company. He was elected to the fifty-second congress as a republican.
