Cuyler, Jeremiah
lawyer, jurist, was born in Georgia. In 1821 he was appointed district judge of the United States court for the district of Georgia. He died May 7, 1839, in Savannah, Ga. terian CUYLER, THEODORE LEDYARD, clergyman, author, was born Jan. 10, 1822, in Aurora, N. Y. He is one of the leading divines of America, and for nearly forty years has been pastor of the Lafayette Avenue Presbychurch of Brooklyn, N. Y. In 1846 he graduated from the Princeton Theological seminary, and has filled pastorates in Burlington and Trenton, N.J.; New York city; and in Brooklyn since 1860. He is author of dozen books on religious subjects; and one of his temperance tracts, entitled Somebody's Son, has had a circulation of nearly a million copies.
His force in preaching lies in picturesque description and the weaving in of scenes and illustrations from scripture and from daily life.
