Cook, Seth

miner, was born in 1830, in Byron, N. Y. He was among the first of the men to establish themselves on the Comstock ledge, and with his brother Daniel made a great deal of money in 1886 in the Crown Point deal. He obtained control of the Standard mine at Bodie, and finally returning to the Comstock ledge, became controlling owner of the Alta group of mines at the southern end of the lode. He also had mines on Maxwell creek and large interests in land, including a stock ranch in Contra Costa county.
