Coleman, Hamilton Dudley

soldier, manufacturer, congressman, was born May 12, 1845, in New Orleans, La.

He enlisted in Washington artillery, army of northern Virginia, as a private, and served as such throughout the war. has been engaged in the business of manufacturing and dealing in plantation machinery over twenty years. He was active in the organization of the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial exposition; was one of the organizers of the first electric lighting company established in New Orleans, and served as vice-president and afterward as president. He served two terms as president of the New Orleans chamber of commerce, and was elected November, 1888, one of the vicepresidents of the national board of trade. He was elected to the fifty-first congress as a republican.
