Chipman, J. Logan
lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born June 5, 1830, in Detroit, Mich. In 1856 he was elected city attorney of Detroit, and held that position till 1861. In 1863 he was elected to the Michigan legislature; and in 1865 was appointed attorney of the police board of Detroit. In 1879 he was elected judge of the superior court of Detroit, to which position he was re-elected at the end of six years. He was elected to the fiftieth, fifty-first and fifty-second congresses as a democrat.
