Cheney, John Vance
librarian, author, poet, was born Dec. 29, 1848, in New York. He practiced law for a while; and subsequently became librarian of the public library in San Francisco, Cal. In 1.897 he was elected librarian of the Newberry library of Chicago. His poetical works include Thistle Drift; Wood Blooms; and Queen Helen and Other Poems. In prose, his best known works are The Old Doctor, a Romance of Queer Village; The Golden Guess, a series of critical essays; and That Dome in Air, a similar collection of critical studies.
