Caldwell, Henry Clay
lawyer, jurist, was born Sept. 4, 1832, in Marshall county, Va. He received his education at the schools of Iowa; became prosecuting attorney of Van Buren county, and a member of the legislature of Iowa from 1859 till 1861. He served as a union soldier during the civil war, and became major, lieutenant colonel, and colonel of the third regiment, Iowa volunteer cavalry. For a quarter of a century he faithfully served his country as United States district judge in Arkansas; and since 1890 has been judge of the United States circuit court of appeals for the eighth judicial circuit of Arkansas.
