Carpenter, William H

soldier, business man, was born July 4, 1844, in Luray, Va. He received his education in the schools of his native city, and at St.

Joseph, Mo. During 1861-65 he served in the confederate service from private to captain. He then traveled extensively as business representative of several large firms. Since 1889 he has been president of the Phoenix Loan association of St Joseph, Mo.; is prominently connected with various other business enterprises, and has taken an active part in the public affairs of his county and state.
