Campbell, Jacob Miller

soldier,. congressman, was born Nov. 20, 1821, in Somerset county, Pa. He was a delegate to the first republican convention, held at Philadelphia, in 1856. He served in the union army from 1861 to 1865, rising to the rank of brevet brigadier-general. He was elected surveyor-general of Pennsylvania in 1865, and re-elected, serving six years. He was a trustee of the Pennsylvania state college, and was elected a representative from Pennsylvania to the forty-fifth, forty-seventh, forty-eighth and forty-ninth congresses as a republican.
