Butler, William Allen

author, poet, was born Feb. 20, 1825, in Albany, N. Y. He is a lawyer of New York city, and has been president of the American bar association. He is well known as a writer of poetical satires, among which Nothing to Wear has long been famous.

Others are, Two Millions; General Average, a satire upon mercantile life; Barnum's Parnassus. His prose writings include Martin Van Buren, a Biography; Mrs. Limber's Raffle, an able attack on the morality of church fairs; Domesticus, a Story; Oberammergau; and The History of the Revision of the Statutes of New York.
