Burks, Edward C

lawyer, legislator, jurist, was born May 20, 1821. In 1842 he graduated from the law department of the university of Virginia. During 1861-63 he served as a member of the Virginia state legislature. In 1876 he was elected judge of the supreme court of appeals. He was president of the Virginia State Bar association; and in 1895 became editor-in-chief of the Virginia Law Register. He died July 4, 1897, in Bedford City, Va., which is in the county of his birth.
