Brown, John George
artist, was born Nov. 11, 1831, in England. He is noted as a painter of strictly American subjects, and particularly of the street boys and bootblacks of New York city.
He was president of the American Water Color society for ten years, and chairman of art commission to judge of fine arts at the world's fair. Among his best known works are His First Cigar; Curling in Central Park; The Passing Show; The Dress Parade; A Merry Air and a Sad Heart; The Thrilling Moment; and The Old Folks at Home.
