Brown, D. Russell
manufacturer, governor, was born March 28, 1848, in Connecticut. In 1880 he was elected to the common council of Providence, and served four years. In 1886 he was tendered the nomination of mayor, but declined; and two years later was elected presidential elector. In 1892 he was elected governor of Rhode Island, and for many years filled that high office to the entire satisfaction of the people. In 1870 Mr.
Brown moved to Providence and took charge of the Mill supply store of Cyrus White, which business he subsequently purchased. He is now the president of the Brown Brothers' company, general mill furnishers. He is connected with numerous charitable and educational institutions in his city and state; and a prominent member of various fraternal orders.
