Brown, Alexander
historian, was born Sept. 5, 1843, in Nelson county, Va.
During 1861-65 he was a soldier in the confederate service; a merchant during 1865- 80; and for over a quarter of a century has been interested in farming in his native county. Since his youth he has been interested in literary work, and has received the degree of D. C. L., conferred by the university of the South. He is the author of The Genesis of the United States; The Cabells and Their Kin; and The History of the First Republic in America.
