Broun, Thomas L
soldier, lawyer, was born in Loudoun county, Va. In 1848 he graduated from the university of Virginia; taught school two years; and was admitted to the bar in 1852. He entered the confederate service as a private in the Kanawha riflemen; was promoted to major in the third Virginia regiment of Wise Legion; and severely wounded at the battle of Cloyd's Mountain. After the war Major Broun was reinstated in his old position as president of the Navigation company of Charleston. During 1866-70 he practiced law in New York city, when he returned again to Charleston. He has made a specialty of West Virginia law and land titles; and has devoted his energies to the development of the Coal river region, in which he has a large personal interest.
