Brice, Calvin Stewart

soldier, educator, lawyer, United States senator, was born Sept. 17, 1845, in Denmark, Ohio.

He served through the civil war. He was delegate at large from Ohio to the St.

Louis democratic national convention in 1888; was selected to represent Ohio on the national democratic committee, and was chairman of the campaign committee for the ensuing national campaign. On the death of William H.

Barnum he was unanimously elected chairman of the national committee in 1889, and in January, 1890, was elected United States senator, to succeed Henry B. Payne, for the term of 1891-97.
