Brents, Thomas Hurley

lawyer, legislator, jurist, was born Dec. 24, 1840, near Florence, Ill. He received his education at the common schools; the Baptist college of Oregon City; and the Mc- Minnville college, Oregon. He was appointed justice of the peace, was the first postmaster of Canyon City; and the first county clerk of Grant county. In 1866 he was elected a member of the Oregon state legislature. In 1870 he moved to Walla Walla, Wash., and was made prosecuting attorney of that city. He was seventh, and forty-eighth congresses as member of the forty-sixth, fortya representative from Washington; and has served as judge of the superior court for Walla Walla county. a
