Bratton, John
soldier, physician, congressman, was born March 7, 1831, in Winnsboro, S. C. He enlisted in the confederate army in 1861 and served throughout the war, attaining the rank of brigadier-general. He was a member of the state constitutional convention in 1865; was a member of the state senate in 1866; was chairman of the South Carolina delegation to the democratic national convention in 1876, and a member of the democratic state committee the same year. He was a delegate from South Carolina to the democratic national convention of 1880.
In 1881 he was elected, by the legislature, comptroller-general of the state of South Carolina, to fill a vacancy, and in 1884 he was elected a representative from South Carolina to the forty-eighth congress.
