Bodwell, Joseph R
governor of Maine, was born June 18, 1818, in Methuen, Mass. He opened quarries in 1852 on an island in Penobscot bay, and organized the Bodwell, and, in 1870, the Hallowell granite company. He served twice in the legislature, and in 1886 was elected governor by the republicans. He died Dec. 15, 1887, in Hallowell, Maine.
