Blount, William
United States senator, governor, was born in 1744 in North Carolina. He was a delegate to the continental congress in 1782, 1783, 1786 and 1787, from North Carolina, and was governor of the territory south of the Ohio, having been appointed to that office in 1790. In 1796 he was chosen president of the convention of Tennessee, and was elected the same year, by that state, to a seat in the United States senate. While his impeachment trial was in progress in the United States senate he was elected a member of the state senate and made president thereof. He died March 10, 1810, in Knoxville, Tenn.
