Blackwell, Elizabeth
physician, author, was born Feb. 3, 1821, in Bristol, England. She is a physician of New York city, who, with her sister Emily, organized the woman's medical college of the New York infirmary. She is the author of Laws of Life, or the Physical Education of Girls; Counsel to Parents in the Moral Education of Their Children; and Pioneer Work in Opening the Medical Profession to Women.
BLACKWELL, JAMES HEYWARD, educator, was born Feb. 5, 1862, in Marion, Va. He is an expert penman and professor of mathematics. He has taught in many leading educational institutions, and since 1888 has been principal of the public high school of Manchester, Va.
