Billingsley, Amos Stevens

clergyman, author, was born Nov. 14, 1818, near East Palestine, Ohio. In 1847 he graduated from the Jefferson college, Pennsylvania; and in 1850 from the Allegheny Theological seminary. He filled many important pastorates; was home missionary in Nebraska and Colorado; was chaplain in the army, and promoted to United States chaplain. He was president of the board of trustees of Biddle university. He was the author of Christianity in the War; Life of Reverend George Whitfield; Sources of Pulpit Power. He died Oct. 12, 1897, in Statesville, N. C.
