Biggs, Asa

lawyer, jurist, United States senator, was born Feb. 4, 1811, in Williamstown, N. C. In 1835 he was elected a member of the constitutional convention of that state; in 1840, 1842, and 1844 was elected to the state legislature; and was chosen a member of the twenty-ninth congress. In 1854 he went a second time into the state senate; and was elected a senator in congress in 1854 for six years. In 1858 he became judge of the United States district court of North Carolina. He died March 6, 1878, in Norfolk, Va.
