Biddle, Charles John

soldier, congressman, was born in 1819, in Philadelphia, Pa. In the war with Mexico he was brevetted a major for gallant and meritorious services. In 1861 he was appointed a colonel in the Pennsylvania reserve volunteer corps; and while in the field in Virginia was elected a representative from Pennsylvania to the thirtyseventh congress, to fill a vacancy. He was a son of Nicholas Biddle. He was a successful journalist; and the author of The Case of Major Andre. He died sept. 28, 1873, in Philadelphia, Pa.
