Bennet, Orlando

wrecker, was born Oct. 4, 1818, in Ithaca, N. Y. During the civil war he was employed by the United States government to clear the harbors of Charleston and Savannah from monitors, torpedoes, and other obstructions. By this means a sea-way was opened to supply Gen. William T. Sherman's army after its, march to the sea. He died July 10, 1880, in Bellport, N. Y.

BENNET, THOMAS. governor, was born in South Carolina. He was governer of that state from 1820 to 1822.
