Beck, Lewis C
chemist, author, was born Oct. 4, 1798, in Schenectady, N. Y.
In 1830 he was appointed professor of chemistry and natural history in Rutger's college, and, at the time of his death, was professor of chemistry in the Albany Medical college. He published Account of the Salt Springs at Salina; On Adulterations; Botany of the United States, and of the United States North of Virginia; Mineralogy of New York; Illinois and Missouri Gazetteer; and Chemistry. He died April 20, 1853, in Albany, N. Y.
