Beale, Mrs. Maria

author, was born in 1849 in Virginia. She is a novelist of Arden, N. C.; and the author of Jack O'Doon.

BEALE, RICHARD LEE TUBER- VILLE, general, lawyer, congressman, was born May 22, 1819, in Hickory Hill, Va. He was a representative from Virginia in the congress of the United States in 1847-49; and was a member of the convention to form a constitution for Virginia in 1851. He was a member of the state senate of Virginia in 1858-60. He was in the service of the confederate states, and became a brigadier-general.

He was elected to fill the vacancy in the forty-fifth congress caused by the death of B. B. Douglas. He had previously been elected to the forty-sixth congress as a democrat.
