Barclay, Shepard
lawyer, jurist, was born Nov. 3, 1847, in St. Louis, Mo.
He received his education in the public and high schools, St. Louis university, university of Virginia and Berlin university. He began the practice of law in 1872; in 1882 was elected circuit judge in St. Louis; and in 1888 was made a judge of the supreme court.
BARCLAY, WILLIAM FRANKLIN, physician, was born Feb. 13, 1842, in Jacksonville, Pa. He discovered and applied gold compounds in 1893, in which he successfully combined gold with bromine, mercury, arsenic, and other metals, in the face of the decree of chemistry that such compounds were impossible.
