Bacon, John
clergyman, statesman, was born in 1737, in Canterbury, Conn.
He graduated at the college of New Jersey in 1765; studied theology; and after preaching for a time in. Maryland, removed to Massachusetts, and settled in Boston. He subsequently held the positions of magistrate, representative in the state legislature, presiding judge of the court of common pleas, a member and president of the state senate, and that of representative in congress from Massachusetts from 1801 to 1803. He died Oct. 25, 1820, in Berkshire county, Mass.
