WORTHINGTON, NICHOLAS ELLS- WORTH, lawyer, congressman, was born March 30, 1835, in Brooke county, W. Va.

He was county superintendent of schools from 1864 to 1872 in Peoria, Ill. He was a member of the state board of public instruction from 1868 to 1872; and was elected a representative from Illinois to the forty-eighth and forty-ninth congresses as a democrat.
