Wolcott, Anson
farmer, merchant, lawyer, legislator, was born Oct. 21, 1819, in Western, N. Y. In 1864 he moved to Indiana; two years later was elected a member of the senate of that state, and during three sessions of the legislature he held the position of chairman of the senate finance committee. In 1876 he was nominated by the greenback party for the office of governor. He filled numerous public offices of trust in his native state prior to his settlement in Indiana, and was attorney and counselor at law of the supreme court for the state of New York, and later of the United States supreme court. He is the author of a number of papers on the subject of finance, which have been published as memorials, by order of the United States senate. He has been a successful farmer and grain dealer of Wolcott, Ind., and is a direct descendant of Henry Wolcott, who came from Somersetshire, England, in 1630.
