Wistar, Caspar
physician, educator, author, was born Sept. 13, 1761, in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1792 he became adjunct professor of anatomy in the university of Pennsylvania. The chair of anatomy he filled until his death, and his lectures and demonstrations did much to establish the high character and wide reputation of the school. From 1793 to 1810 he was physician to the Pennsylvania hospital, and his resignation of this post after long services caused great regret. He was the author of System of Anatomy for Use of Students in Medicine. He died Jan. 22, 1818, in Philadelphia, Pa.
