Wilder, William Heatley
lawyer, civil engineer, philanthropist, was born March 25, 1813, in Beauford, S. C.
After graduating from the Union college of Schenectady, N. Y., he studied French, German, and Spanish in Europe. He subsequently graduated from the New York university of Law; and from 1833 was engaged in the practice of that profession, moving to New Orleans in 1843. For three successive terms he was a member of the Louisiana legislature; was a member of the general council of New Orleans in 1847; and subsequently alderman for a number of years. He was noted for his great philanthropy and benevolence.
He died March 25, 1898, in New Orleans, La.
