Magaw, Samuel
educator, clergyman, author, was born about 1740, in Philadelphia, Pa. He aided in establishing the Philadelphia academy, and was secretary of the convention of Pennsylvania for several years. He published numerous sermons that he preached on special occasions. He died Dec. 1, 1812, in Philadelphia, Pa.
MAGEE, CHRISTOPHER LYMAN, promoter, state senator, was born April 14, 1848, in Pittsburg, Pa. He has attended every republican national convention since 1876 as a delegate. In 1880 he was one of the famous three hundred and six who stood out for General Grant. In 1884 he bought the Pittsburg Times, and, as president and editor, built the circulation up from 1,500 to 60,000 a day. He also organized and became president of the Duquesne Traction Co., and is also president of the Transverse Railway Co.
In 1896 he was elected a member of the state senate.
