chemist, author, was born June 30, 1839, in Rochester, N. Y. He is an agricultural chemist; and the author of Relation of the Patent Laws to Development of Agriculture; The Chinese and the Chinese Question; Shobab, a Tale of Bethesda in verse; Sonnets and Lyrics; and The Children of Lamech. WHITNEY, [JOSEPH] ERNEST, educator, author, was born in 1858 in Connecticut. He is an instructor in English for some years at Yale university; and the author of Poems of the Pike's Peak Region.
