Whitehill, Alexander Reid

educator, was born Aug. 4, 1850, in Hookstown, Pa. He received his education at the Princeton college, N. J.; the School of Mines of Freiberg, Saxony; and the university of Leipsic. For four years he was professor of physical sciences in the university of Mound College, San Francisco, Cal.; and for four years was principal of the Lindsly institute of Wheeling, W. Va.

For the past twelve years he has filled the chair of chemistry in the West Virginia university, of which institution he is also treasurer. He has traveled extensively in America and Europe, and has contributed valuable articles to current literature.
