White, Harry
soldier, state senator, congressman, was born Jan. 12, 1834, in Indiana county, Pa. In 1861 he entered the union army as a major, and served throughout the war, attaining the rank of colonel and brevet brigadier-general.
While in service was elected a state senator from Pennsylvania, and served during the session of 1862-63, returning to his command at the close of the session. He was re-elected to the state senate for three years in 1865, again in 1868, and again in 1871, serving as speaker during the close of the latter term. He was elected a representative from Pennsylvania to the forty-fifth and forty-sixth congresses.
