Walker, James Alexander

soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Aug. 27, 1832, in Augusta county, Va. He entered the confederate army in 1861, and was promoted to colonel of the thirteenth Virginia infantry in 1862, and in 1863 was promoted to brigadier-general. He was elected commonwealth's attorney for Pulaski county in 1860; represented Pulaski county in the house of delegates of Virginia in 1871-72; and was elected lieutenant-governor of Virginia in 1877. He was elected to the fifty-fourth and fiftyfifth congresses as a republican.
