Wait, John Turner

lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Aug. 27, 1811, in New London, Conn. He was state's attorney for the county of New London, Conn., from 1842 to 1844. He was a presidential elector in 1864; was a state senator in 1865 and 1866. He was a representative in the state legislature in 1867, 1871 and 1873, serving the first year as speaker.

He was elected a representative from Connecticut to the forty-fourth congress to fill a vacancy. He was re-elected to the forty-fifth, forty-sixth, forty-seventh, forty-eighth, and forty-ninth congresses as a republican.
