Voorhis, Charles Henry
lawyer, legislator, was born March 3, 1833, in Spring Valley, N. J. He graduated at Rutgers college, New Jersey, in 1853; and was admitted to the bar as an attorney in 1856 and as counsellor at law in 1859.
He was appointed in 1868 presiding judge for Bergen county, N. J., by Governor Ward; and was elected to the forty-sixth congress as a republican. For fifty years he was a member of the bar of New Jersey; was a pleasing and popular speaker; manifested superior literary ability, and contributed valuable historical data of Bergen and Hudson counties, N. J. He died April 15, 1896.
