Vest, George Graham

lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was born Dec. 6, 1830, in Frankfort, Ky. In 1853 he removed to Missouri and began the practice of law in Central Missouri.

He was a presidential elector on the democratic ticket in 1860; and was a member of the Missouri house of representatives in 1860-61. He was a member of the house of representatives of the Confederate congress for two years and a member of the Confederate senate for one year. He was elected to the United States senate as a democrat to fill a vacancy and took his seat March 18, 1879. He was re-elected in 1885, 1890, and 1897. His term of service will expire March 3, 1903.
