Thayer, William Roscoe

educator, poet, was born in 1857 in Massachusetts. He was formerly an instructor at Harvard university. His writings in verse include, The Confessions of Hermes; Hesper; Poems, New and Old. He has published, also, The Dawn of Italian Independence; and The Best Elizabethan Plays. THEAKER, THOMAS CLARKE, chinist, congressman, was born Feb. 1, 1812, in York county, Pa. He was elected a representative from Ohio to the thirty-sixth congress; and was subsequently appointed one of a board of commissioners to examine into the affairs of the patent office. In 1865 he was appointed commissioner of patents. He died July 16, 1883, in Oakland, Md.
