Tallmadge, Benjamin
soldier, merchant, congressman, was born Feb. 25, 1754, in Brookhaven, N. Y. He was a member of Washington's military family, and attained the rank of general. He was a representative in congress from Connecticut from 1801 to 1817. He died March 7, 1835, in Litchfield, Conn.
TALLMADGE, FREDERICK AUGUS- TUS, lawyer, congressman, was born Aug. 29, 1792. In 1836 he was elected an alderman of New York city, and also a state senator; and was subsequently for five years recorder of the city. He was a representative from New York in the thirtieth congress; was again recorder for three years; and in 1857 was appointed general superintendent of the metropolitan police.
