Sumner, William Graham

educator, author, was born Oct. 30, 1840, in Paterson, N. J. He is an episcopal clergyman, prominent as a political economist, professor of political and social science at Yale university from 1872, and the author of A History of American Currency; What Social Classes Owe to Each Other; Problems in Political Economy; Collected Essays in Political and Social Science; Protectionism; Lives of Andrew Jackson, Alexander Hamilton, Robert Morris; and The Financier and the Finances of the Revolution, a more extended life of Robert Morris. He is also a constant contributor to the leading religious periodicals of the United States.
