Studebaker, John
merchant, banker, was born Aug. 15, 1817, in Darke county, Ohio. He began his mercantile operations in a log cabin in Bluffton, Ind.; was the agent of the American Fur company, and did a large business among the Indians. In 1856 he entered the banking business, and established the Exchange bank, which institution in 1863 was merged into the First National bank, of which he was president. Since 1868 he has been president of the Exchange bank of John Studebaker and Company, which is now known as the Studebaker bank.
He has been a candidate for congress, and has taken an active part in the business and public affairs of his county and state.
