Stickney, John
musician, was born in 1742 in Stoughton, Mass. He traveled extensively through the New England states, and acquired reputation as a teacher and composer, but finally settled in South Hadley, where he continued his teaching. He published The Gentlemen and Ladies' Musical Companion, a valuable collection of psalms and anthems, together with explanatory rules for learning to sing. He died in 1826 in South Hadley, Mass.
STICKNEY, MRS. JULIA GRANBY [NOYES], poet, was born July 5, 1830, in West Newbury, Mass. She is a poet of Groveland, Mass.; and the author of Poems on Lake Winnepesaukee.
