Stark, Benjamin

merchant, lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was born June 26, 1820, in New Orleans, La.

In 1845 he settled in Oregon, and established commercial relations with the Sandwich Islands, and with California, then a Mexican province. In 1852 he was a member of the territorial legislature of Oregon, and in 1860 was a member of the state legislature of that state. He was a senator in congress from Oregon during parts of the years 1861 and 1862, in the thirty-seventh congress.
