Stacy, Edwin Clark
lawyer, legislator, jurist, was born Sept. 5, 1814, in Hamilton, N. Y. He received his education in the Hamilton academy of his native city, and the Erie academy, Pennsylvania. In 1836 he moved to Ann Arbor, Mich.; there studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1840 at Tecumseh, Mich.
In 1856 he moved west, located a government claim at the head of Geneva lake, in the then wilds of Minnesota. In 1856 he was appointed a commissioner to organize Freeborn county; and in 1857 he was elected to the constitutional convention which framed the organic law of the state, and served in that body with marked ability. In 1859 he moved to Albert Lee; was elected three terms as county auditor; served as judge of probate; and one term as superintendent of schools.
He was city justice from 1875 until his death, which occurred on Sept. 5, 1896.
