Spooner, Henry J
soldier, lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born Aug. 6, 1839, in Providence, R. I. He served in the union army as a commissioned officer from 1862 to 1865. He was admitted to the bar in the latter year, and engaged in the practice of law in his native city. He was a member of the state house of representatives from 1875 to 1881, serving as speaker the last two years. He was elected as a representative to the forty-seventh congress to fill a vacancy; and was reelected to the forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth and fifty-first congresses as a republican.
